San Cristobal
The fifth largest of the Galapagos Islands in terms of size, Isla San Cristobal has the second largest human settlement of this volcanic island chain. Also known as Chatham Island, Isla San Cristobal is important because it is home to the provincial capital of the Galapagos, Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. It also provides an excelent base opportunity for diving day trips and land trips. However, it does not provide hotels or accommodation beyond the standard class.
Home to quite a few endemic wildlife species, this island’s claim to fame is that there is a lot to see and do here. With spectacular landscapes, San Cristobal has the only freshwater lagoon in the Galapagos. El Junco lagoon sits in the highlands about 700m above sea level. A rain filled crater around 6m deep, there are a lot of endemic trees and ferns surrounding the lake, making the views from here quite breathtaking, with some exceptional bird watching opportunities.

Hotel Mar Azul is a comfortable and spacious hotel situated in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. All rooms have private bathroom and hot shower, some have TV and air-conditioning. No meal service is available.
The Hotel Chatham is centrally located to all four surfing spots and is known to be a gathering spot for surfers in Galapagos.
The Galapagos Hostel is located at Wreck Bay in Port Baquerizo Moreno on San Cristobal Island. The hostel features 13 rooms with private bathroom, hot water, small freezers and air conditioning (TV available upon request). There are telephone facilities as well as radio communications.
Los Cactus is a small hotel, quite simple and away from the center of town in quiete location. All rooms have fans and private facilities with hot water. There is a common room with television.
